This project is a visual and mnemonic reconstruction of Jorge Luis Borges' hexagonal universe from his "The Library of babel", serving as the architectural engine for my record-breaking memorization of π and e. It is a direct "spring-out" from my efforts to master these infinite constants, utilizing a high-precision, multilingual PEG system to encode abstract digits into tangible objects.
In this system, sequences of 5 to 10 objects coalesce into surreal short stories, each meticulously shelved within a single book among the Library's endless galleries. Because the digits of π and e are infinite, the Library expands alongside them — a formalist "Mastery of the Void" where mathematical chaos is transformed into a navigable, sensory narrative.
The project presents this cognitive architecture through:
- Storyboards for the surreal mnemonic narratives.
- Renderings of the Library's hexagonal design.
- Paintings, drawings, and sculptures depicting the encoded objects.
As an ongoing endeavor, the library grows in real-time alongside my expanding memory of the infinite.
If this was worth a few dollars to you, the jar is here. Either way, thank you for reading.
